The Federal Government is making a bold move, aiming to reshape Nigeria's economic landscape through strategic investments in digital and technical skills. At the 3MTT Nigeria National Impact Summit held in Abuja, stakeholders emphasized the pivotal role of the 3MTT Programme. President Bola Tinubu, represented by Senator George Akume, highlighted that Nigeria's greatest asset isn't oil or minerals, but the ingenuity and potential of its people. The program's reach extends nationwide, with applications from every state and local government, ensuring opportunities aren't confined to major cities.
According to Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, the 3MTT has already created over 16,000 direct jobs. Furthermore, 201 applied learning centers have been established across the country, supported by over 600 facilitators and 37 community managers. These centers serve as practical hubs for young Nigerians to gain and apply digital skills. The program's phased approach began with 30,000 participants in December 2023, with a goal to reach 10% of the target by mid-2024.
The EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Gautier Mignot, highlighted the European Union's support for 3MTT, viewing it as a core part of Nigeria's digital transformation. EU funding and technical support will help scale the initiative and align it with global industry standards. Airtel Nigeria's CEO, Dinesh Balsingh, and Google's Director for West Africa, Olumide Balogun, also praised the program, emphasizing its role in equipping young Nigerians with the digital skills needed to thrive in the global economy, particularly in areas like AI and machine learning.
