Love, championships, and a whole lot of tennis! That's the exciting mix brewing at the United Cup, and it's not just about the matches. Team Australia's Jason Kubler and Maddison Inglis have added a beautiful personal touch to the competition: they're engaged!
Last month, amidst the stunning backdrop of Rottnest Island, Kubler popped the question, and Inglis happily said yes. Kubler shared, "It was super exciting. I didn't anticipate the hour leading up. I was so nervous. That was crazy. Felt like we were on a first date again. Very happy I did it. Very happy Maddy said yes, which is good."
The couple has been enjoying their time together in Perth, especially cherishing their engagement. Inglis mentioned, "It’s very exciting, especially having that time in Perth. It was our first time to Rotto. It was such a special spot to do it. It was really exciting. It's been nice to spend these couple weeks together after, to enjoy it. Yeah, it's super exciting we get to be on Team Australia. We're looking forward to it.”
During the press conference, the highlight was undoubtedly the pair's announcement, with Alex de Minaur playfully encouraging them.
Now, though, it's back to business. Kubler and Inglis, as the No. 2 singles players for their country, are focused on helping Australia win the United Cup. This also means they get to stay together, at least for the duration of the tournament.
Kubler noted, “Not often we can play the same tournaments. When we can, we try. To start the year together playing for Australia as well, supporting these guys, is super special. We're looking forward to the week.”
But here's where it gets interesting: The blend of personal joy and professional ambition creates a unique dynamic. Do you think this personal connection will fuel their performance on the court, or could the pressure of the competition add an extra layer of complexity? What are your thoughts?
