A storm of controversy is brewing in Pakistan as Aleema Khan, sister of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, alleges mistreatment and illegal isolation of her brother within Adiala Jail. This has sparked a protest outside the prison, adding fuel to the already tense situation.
For the past eight months, the family has been trying to see Imran Khan, but with little success. Aleema Khan's statement highlights the family's growing concern over his well-being, stating that he is being subjected to torture and kept in isolation. The protests have been ongoing, with supporters gathering to voice their concerns about his health and safety.
But here's where it gets controversial... The situation escalated when senior PTI leaders joined the sit-in, showing the party's frustration after repeated visit rejections, even when court orders permitted visits on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Adding to the complexity, a rare 20-minute meeting on December 2nd offered a glimpse into Imran Khan's condition. His sister, Uzma Khanum, reported that while he appeared physically well, he was facing 'psychological torture'.
And this is the part most people miss... Khanum further stated that Imran Khan blamed Pakistan's army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, for his mental distress. The Pakistan Army quickly responded, rejecting the allegations and labeling the former premier as mentally unstable. The government then banned Uzma Khanum and others from future visits, citing violations of prison rules, which has further deepened tensions. Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar stated that political discussions were not allowed, leading to the ban on meetings.
